Become a member of Midland Sailing Club

Welcome!

Midland Sailing Club is always delighted to welcome new members.

Meet lots of lovely people from all walks of life who have a common interest in water sports. The club has been established since 1894 and still thrives today. We care about sailing, windsurfing, and paddle boarding, and we care about our members. All just a couple of miles from the City Centre – Become a member.

RYA training courses

Learn to sail or windsurf in our RYA training courses. We run training courses throughout the year; you’ll find something to help you whether you are a new sailor or looking to develop your racing, coaching or powerboat skills. As a member you get a discount of 50% on any training courses (unless there is a specific members’ price). Our training courses are run under the SailBirmingham banner.

Practice and improve your sailing skills during our on and off the water coaching sessions. During the winter months, we have evening workshops on boat maintenance, boat trim and the racing rules and various coaching sessions for beginners and the more experienced sailor – Become a member.

Racing

Challenge yourself against skilled competitors in our Saturday afternoon and Wednesday evening races. We sail a range of dinghy classes and we welcome a wide range of skilled competitors to race from beginners to champions.

We also have races early on a Saturday aimed at beginners who don’t yet feel confident to join in with the club racing.

National and regional competitions

Join us in competing in regional and national competitions. We encourage and help our members to compete in regional and national meetings and regattas. We regularly send 30+ members to National Competitions such as Coppet week and the renowned endurance competition, the Southport 24hr race.

Store your boat at the club in safe and dry conditions. We have indoor and outdoor storage spaces for members’ boats.

Active social scene

Meet people in the clubhouse and bar and join in our frequent social activities. We provide lunches between races on Saturdays, supper on Wednesday evenings and beach side BBQ’s in the summer. We have guest ales, guest speakers quiz nights and dinners.

If you’re interested in joining, we recommend that you come down to the sailing club to meet a few people and see how we work.

Under 18’s

Your children can learn by joining our Saturday OnBoard sessions; this includes both sailing, paddle boarding and windsurfing. Juniors can also sail with the adults during club races on Saturday afternoons and Wednesday evenings – Become a member.

Adults

Adults can learn to sail by sailing with our more experienced sailing members and by taking the RYA training courses held at the club.

To join you just need to fill out a membership application form, and we will handle the rest.

Social member

If you are interested in Midland Sailing Club but are not able to sail, but would be interested in socialising, or supporting the club and using its facilities, you can join as a supporter and enjoy all the benefits of the sailing club, without necessarily sailing – Become a member.
