The 30+ challenge

The 30+ challenge

The Scratch Tuning fork Trophy

This year we are challenging our sailing members once a month to see if we can get more than 30 boats on the water together. We didn't manage 30 this time not suprising it being rather cold and gusty - the next date should be better weather. It's the 24th of March. This month's winners of both the Scratch and Handicap Tuning Forks were Richard Dee and Nancy Gudgeon.

The first 30+ challenge race was the pursuit race of the 24th February, 12 boats took part in bright but cold and gusty conditions. We saw a few of our recent trainees take to the water too before the racing - it was really great to see th

em out on the water.

We made great in-roads into the box of guest beer - Sadler's Hop Bomb but there might be some left for Wednesday's session on Protest Meetings.

Richard Dee and Nancy Gudgeon by some mischance won both the tuning fork trophies and a box of chocolates each.

Special Prizes went to:

Dave Trott and Kate Fairburn for the Best Save of the Day.

Mike Colles and Sarah Crabtree for the Best Bit of Knitting.

Paul Young and Hannah Spash for the First Boat with Blue Sails.

Mike Homer for the First Laser

Stuart Jones and Lawrence Bowbanks for the Finest Swimming Demonstration.

The club would like to thank Mark McKeever, Richard Dee and Peter Storey who promoted the event and supplied the prizes, Lawrence Bowbanks for sourcing the guest Beer. Claudia Carter and Angela Daniels who cooked and ran the galley, Julian Harms who ran the bar and gave out the prizes and the race team - Keith Garrett, David Wheeler, Mike Brown and particularly Mike Anslow and Kate Fairburn who stepped in to support the race team at the last minute.

Pursuit Handicap race results:
